how to make your computer run faster
63Many people find themselves frustrated with a Windows computer that was bought recently or two years ago. People may find that the computer is running increasingly slower than when it was purchased. Users need to clear out the start up list & the temporary folder, use a safer internet Browser, and download an anti spy-ware program. By following these simple steps and some basic knowledge of how to run a Windows PC, anyone can increase the speed of their computer. Here are some free ways that people can clean up their computer themselves.
Here is something people can do without installing software into the computer. Users need to clear up the start up list because many programs are running at once, and many of the programs are not needed. First step to clear the startup list is to have the computer on and logged into Windows with administrative privileges. Next step would be to get to “msconfig”; Windows xp users would click “start” then select “run” from the menu, and then type “msconfig” into the search engine. Windows Vista and Windows 7 users will click start and type “msconfig” into the programs search menu, and open up the application. Allow permission as needed.
Once the
“msconfig” has opened up, users will then select the “start up” tab.
Next, in
the “start up” tab, users will click the “disable all” button, and then
click
“apply”. Many of the applications that are being disabled are not being
uninstalled. Users do not have to worry about loosing any programs or
applications. On a side note if you have an anti-virus, or anti-spy-ware
program that you use you can go ahead and have the check box checked in
Another option
that users have is to select the services tab, and disable anything in the list
that is not labeled manufactured “Microsoft Corporation”. disabling services from the "services" tab can be dangerous to the operation of you computer, so please do not disable all in the services tab, only star up tab. if you are unsure, skip this paragraph.
Once applied, users will proceed to close and restart the computer. Once the computer is restarted and logged in, users will be prompted with a message box, click the check box, and proceed to click “OK” box. Users will notice a significant increase in start up speed and runtime.
This one is a good tune up tip done by most computer technicians like myself. If you are unsure or having trouble following these directions, pleas skip this paragraph also, you do not want to compromise the running of your PC. Go to My Computer (XP users) or Computer (Win 7 users) proceed to drive C: next open the Windows folder (you may need permission from the computer to view the contents) next find the Temp file and open it. select all the files in the temp folder and delete them all.(Do not delete the temp folder. only the files inside the temp folder, and it is not a good idea to delete any of the files that you see while navigating to the temp folder)
Another helpful thing to do for the computer is to switch to a different internet browser. One of the best ones and widely used one is “fire fox”. The best way to get “fire fox” is to down load “fire fox” from the web sited at “Firefox.com”. At the “fire fox” website, click to download “fire fox”; if you are using internet explore, click save to file, and allow to download. Once downloaded, run and continue to the installation processes. Allow for permission as necessary.
Spy-ware is an increasing problem among Windows computers that are connected to the internet. The best solutions is to use an anti spy-ware program. I would suggest downloading an anti-spy-ware or anti-virus such as “windows security essentials” from Microsoft or the free version of “AVG” and another good one is “Spybot Search & Destroy”. These applications can be found doing a Google search or going to download.com. Windows security essentials only works for users that are running a genuine version of windows and for non-commercial use. The free version of AVG works pretty well for all users. Spybot Search & Destroy was one of my favorite anti spyware program, and works pretty well for preventing dangerous programs from auto installing but is not an ant-virus program. I would suggest that users only install one of these programs, because these programs my conflict with each other and slow the computer down by using more computer resources such as ram and processing power.
These procedures will not work for users who do not have administrative privileges or users with a firewall, virus, or spy-ware that blocks the opening of these application.
two last things that i recommend is upgrading the computer's ram memory up to 2gigs or better, second thing would be to add a GPU based graphics card that has .5 gigs or ram or better. most people may wanna have this done by a professional. windows tends to be a ram hog, so for some people my notice that the computer freezes up every once in a while, to every time switching between multiple screens. that is common among users who like to multitask on the computer and leave a lot of applications open at once, so adding more ram can stop you computer from those occasions when you see the tab say (not responding). GPU based graphic card are great for anyone who streams movies over the internet, these types of graphic cards reduce the load on your system's resource such as ram and CPU treads. most users won't need the top of the line graphics card, so something in the price range from 50$ - 100$ can get anyone a decent graphics.
